Abstract
516,908. Cables. PIRELLI-GENERAL CABLE WORKS, Ltd., and WERREN, H. T. July 29, 1938, No. 22592. [Class 36] The outer conductor of a coaxial conductor cable, more particularly a cable with air-space insulation, is surrounded by an iron or steel protective sheath constituted by one or more strips applied longitudinally or helically, the edges of the strip or strips being welded together. The outer conductor may consist of a copper strip applied simultaneously with the iron or steel strip. The copper and iron, or steel strips may be welded together, as may also be the edges of the copper strip. A layer of heat insulating material may be provided to prevent damage to the insulating spacers of the conductors during the welding of the edges of the strip or strips. In a modified construction the outer conductor is formed by a deposit of copper on the inner face of the iron or steel strip, the thickness of deposit preferably being equal to the depth of current penetration at the highest frequency to be transmitted over the cable.
