515,140. Testing hardness of materials. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Feb. 19. 1938, No. 5315. Void. Convention date, Feb. 22, 1937. [Class 106 (ii)] - In impression apparatus a signal device is provided which gives an optical or other signal when the penetrater enters the specimen at the desired pressure. In the example shown, a spring pressed plunger 4 carrying the indentor 6 works in a cylinder 3. Normally an insulated contact 10 on the plunger engages an insulated contact 9 on the cover and causes a lamp 11 in an electric circuit to light. When the apparatus is moved upwards so that the indentor passes through a hole in the table 2 to engage the specimen 1 which is clamped to the table, the light goes out after the pressure of the spring is overcome. A switch is provided in the circuit to cut off the light when the apparatus is out of use.
