642,976. Telephone instruments. CROSBY, M. G., and BACKIE, J. L. Jan. 23, 1948, No. 2131. Convention date, March 13, 1941. [Class 40 (iv)] An ultra-violet lamp 20 is fitted to a telephone set so that sterilizing rays enter the mouthpiece 15 when the hand-set 14 is down. The mouthpiece engages a lever 28 on a mercury switch 25 to operate the lamp only when the hand-set is down. The lamp is accommodated in a housing 17 which may be secured to either end of a base box 10. A floor plate 11 and the base box form a socket for receiving the telephone set. The lamp is fed through a, transformer 13 fitted under the plate 11.
