Abstract

515,029. Endless-belt conveyers. LANE, J. S. May 21, 1938, No. 15228. [Classes 78 (i) and 78 (iv)] A conveyer head for a tipping' conveyer comprises a frame 7 connected to the advanced end of the main conveyer jib 5, and a discharging conveyer jib 34 adapted to swing laterally upon the frame 7. The main conveyer belt 2 passes' round an end roller 1 to which it imparts rotation which is conveyed by chain 12 and sprockets 11, 13 to a countershaft 15. This shaft has a pinion meshing with a pinion 19 on a vertical spindle 20 carrying an eccentric which oscillates a toothed wheel 26 round which passes a chain taking over a sprocket 30 and tensioned by a jockey 28. The sprocket 30 is integral with a block 32 carrying a shaft 51 and itself journalled on a vertical shaft 48 having a bearing at 33. The discharging jib 34 is V-shaped in side view, and its horizontal leg supports an endless belt conveyer 60 passing round a free roller 59 and a roller 57 driven by a chain 53 from the shaft 51. The shaft 51 receives its motion. from countershaft 15 through pinions and chain and sprocket gearing 44, 45, 47 the latter sprocket being on the top of shaft 48 which carries a pinion 49, and the speed imparted to the conveyer belt 60 is at least 10 per cent. greater than the linear speed of the belt 2. A swivel pin 38 co-axial with the shaft 48 supports the horizontal leg of the V-jib 34, and the swing imparted to the jib is about 65 degrees on each side of the medial position. The jib 34 together with its frame 7 can be tipped or elevated about the shaft 3 of the roller 1 through an angle of 40 degrees by a bolt 9 inserted into one of a series of spaced holes 8 in the frame 7 and through a hole in the main jib 5. Side deflecting plates 67 prevent spillage of the material as it drops from the belt 2 on to the belt 60;
