Class 29 [Also in Group XXX] In refrigeration apparatus of the kind in which a cooling chamber 1 has located wholly within it a pair of laterally spaced endless chains 17 passing over sprockets 18 with carrier members 27 for trays 5 of ice-cream bars &c. P suspended between the chains, the carrier members have bushes 22 of internal diameter considerably larger than the diameter of the pins 20 projecting from the chains, so that they make line contact with the pins to prevent freezing up. Trays 5 of the product are loaded by hand on to a feeding device 6 arranged to be reciprocated by a chain conveyer 7 to deposit the trays upon angle brackets 16 from which they are picked up in succession by flanges 27, 28 of carrier members 21 on the endless conveyer 17. After passing through the cooling chamber the trays contact an inclined surface 30 whereby they are lifted off the carrier members and pass to an off-loading conveyer 31. The loading and unloading runs of the conveyer 17 run in guides 35. The cooling apparatus is shown at 34. The carriers 21 hang freely from the extended pivot pins 24 of the chain conveyers 17 by stainless steel bushes 23 of inside diameter about double the diameter of the pins 20 to prevent binding by moisture freezing on the pivot. The flanges 27, 18 are offset from the fixed brackets 16. The bearings within the chamber have dry plastic bushes to prevent freezing up. The loading carriers 6 comprise non-metallic plates 10 each with a vertical slot 11 in which engages a drive pin 12 on the conveyer chain 7 and a cut-out portion 15 which abuts the shaft of the sprocket 9 at the inner end of the travel. Tray-carrying fingers 14 project forwardly of the plates 10 to deposit the trays on the brackets 16, and the driving pin 12 rides in the slot 11 as the pin passes around the sprocket and reverses the carrier 6. Pins on the plates 10 engage a bar 10d to maintain the carrier 6 upright. According to the fifth Provisional Specification the ice-cream is extruded directly on the trays and cut off into lengths as the trays pass beneath an extrusion nozzle.
