Abstract
514,849. Coating metals by cataphoresis. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BENJAMIN, M. May 17,1938, No. 14690. [Class 41] Carbonate coated metal cores for use in the manufacture of oxide coated cathodes for electric discharge lamps are prepared by depositing by cataphoresis, particles of alkaline metal carbonates having diameters between ¢Á and 150Á from a suspension in an organic liquid containing acetone and an organic binder. A suitable mixture consists of acetone, ethylene glycol and nitro-cellulose. Preferably mixed barium and strontium carbonates are deposited on nickel or tungsten, either as anode or cathode, direction of movement of the particles depending on the nature of the liquid. The coating may be removed from part of the core by partly removing it from the bath, and reversing the current. Specifications 325,317, [Class 41], and 444,723 are referred to.
