Abstract
339,057. Gramophone Co., Ltd., Tedham, W. F., and Ellington, F. Oct. 16. 1929. Vacuum. tubes.-In electron-emitting cathode for an electric discharge device comprises a core or layer of aluminium provided with an oxidized surface having an electron-emitting coating thereon. The electron-emitting coating may comprise caesium, barium, or other metal deposited electrolytically or otherwise upon a core of aluminium which has been coated with a layer of oxide by making it the anode in a weak solution of chromic acid. Alternatively, an electron-emitting material may be deposited upon an oxidized aluminium surface formed upon a core of either conducting or non-conducting material such as tungsten or kaolin.
