Abstract

513,970. Electric resonators. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. April 25, 1938, No. 12344. Convention date, April 23, 1937. - [Class 40 (iii)] A resonator comprises inner and outer conductors 2, 1, in the form of spheres or other surfaces of revolution, and an axial rod 3 which is connected to the surfaces conductively at opposite points 4, 6 and capacitively at the remaining points 5,7. Tuning may be effected by turning a closed ring 27 through which some of the magnetic flux passes. A valve 9 of the acorn type may be connected to the sphere 1 and rod 3 to form an oscillator. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the valve may be inside the inner sphere 2 and between the two halves into which the rod 3 is then divided, and the output may be taken from a wire loop having one side adjacent and parallel to the rod 3. The two halves, 3<1>, 3<11> into which the rod is divided may have capacitive flanges 13, 14, Fig. 3, whose distance apart can be adjusted by turning a knob 16. The output leads are connected to small plates 18, 19 capacitively coupled to the flanges 13, 14. Instead of the spheres 1, 2, cylinders may be used, Fig. 4 (not shown). External connection may alternatively be made by coupling means within the rod 3.
