513,876. Viscosimeters. TEVES MASCHINENUND ARMATUREN FABRIK GES., A. April 22, 1938, No. 12115. Convention date, June 5, 1937. [Class :06 (ii)] An apparatus for measuring the viscosity of oil at low temperatures comprises an insulated air space cooled down to a certain temperature in which are disposed two cylinders, the one rotating within the other, between which is provided a film of all to be tested. The cylinder b rotates in a cylinder a with a small amount of play of the order of 0.1 mm. The oil to be tested is smeared on the cylinder, forming a film of known thickness. The shaft c upon which the cylinder is mounted passes through the cover d of a closable cooling chamber e cooled by a coil F. The cylinder b is driven by a weighted cord passed over a pulley h and the grooved wheel i. In a modification, the surfaces between which the oil is introduced are of conical formation and one surface may be moved relatively to the other to vary the thickness of the oil film.
