Abstract

663,141. Centrifugal separators. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR. Sept. 9, 1949. [Sept. 11, 1948] No. 23380/49. Class 23. In a process of clarifying beer in a centrifugal separator 2 the heat generated by friction in the driving gears 4, 5 and in the packings is prevented from causing a local rise of temperature in the beer flowing through the passage 9 in the spindle 3. For this purpose the gear 5 is made hollow and the spindle has cooling fins 12 and an annular duct 13 for cooling liquid. In modifications the passage 9 is air-jacketed or is lined with heatinsulating material e.g., rubber. The spindle may be surrounded by a cooling coil to cool the oil in the gear housing or the oil may be circulated through a cooling system.
