[Class 87 (ii)] An injection-moulding machine for thermoplastic material, having the mould-halves D, D<1> carried by plates 1, 2 has means for locking the plate 1, when the mould has been closed, to rods 15 adjustably carried by the plate 2. A piston 8 of a fluid pressure cylinder 7, carried by the base 3, is connected-by a rod 9 to a head 11 and plate 10 having holes 13, Fig. 2, engaged by rods 12 mounted on the plate 1 and carrying springs 14. When the piston 8 is moved to the right the springs 14 move the plate 1 on guide rods 37, Fig. 1, to close the mould and force it into contact with the nozzle 6, Fig. 2, and then the plate 10 moves over the rods 12, the springs being compressed, and, acting through the head 11 and toggle levers 32, forces sliding wedges 25 to engage under inclined heads 21 of the rods 15. The head 11 is supported by slides 35 mounted on the plate 1.In a modification short toggle levers 32a, Fig. 7, are pivoted to the inner ends of the sliding wedges. 25 while the heads 21 of the rods 15 are extended so as to engage the; ends of the wedges and prevent the action of the toggle until the mould is closed. In this ease the springs are reduced or omitted. :Thermo-plastic phenolic material, in the solid state may be liquefied and forced into a heated mould by a heated plunger or liquid material in a heated cylinder 4, Fig. 2, may be injected by a plunger.
