Abstract
513,278. Railway stops. WOLF, C. April 5, 1938, No. 10409. [Class 104 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A braking and locking device for pit tubs comprises a pivoted block mounted on the inner side of the rail or forming part of the rail and which can be raised at will so as to permit a wheel to wedge between it and a counter-rail disposed above the rail. In Fig. 1 the vehicle wheels wedge between counter-rails 17, 18 and pivoted blocks 1, 2 which are operated by toggles 6, 7, 9, 10, connecting rods 8, 11 and a hand-lever 12, the toggles being connected to fixed points 16. The arrangement is such that when the one block is raised the other is lowered. The block 1 may be lowered and the block 2 raised to allow a tub to travel to a tipping device arranged between the two blocks and operated by the lever 12. The toggles pass the dead-centre position and engage stops a, b so as to lock the blocks in the raised position. Blocks on the two rails are interconnected. The counter-rails may be fixed or they may be movably mounted on springs or be counter-weighted so as to deaden shocks. Alternative operating mechanism comprises a strut pivoted to each block and running at its lower end by means of a roller on a guide track, the roller-pivots of the two struts being connected by linkage to a hand-lever.
