Abstract
512,813. Cylinders. WOOD, H., and THOMAS, R. H. March 22, 1938, No. 8820. [Class 7 (ii)] In a multi-cylinder engine, a common airinlet manifold 8, 9, 10 supplies the cylinder ports through passages 5, 6, having volute form. Instead of a pair of passages 5, 6 being provided for each cylinder, a single volute passage may lead from a manifold extending along one side only of the cylinders. In a sleeve valve engine the port edges 13 are inclined as shown. Radial cylinders or cylinders in line may be used.
