[Class 70] [Also in Group III] A moulding or coating composition comprises magnesium oxide, magnesium. chloride solution, and a bond-modifying agent comprising a hydrous silicate of aluminium, of volcanic origin, e.g., bentonite. Fillers, e.g., sawdust, silica flour and emery powder and colouring matter may be included. In an example; a composition suitable for moulding, tiles comprises 2 Ibs. of magnesium oxide, 2 lbs. of silica flour, 1¢ lbs. of sawdust, 1¥ oz. of hydrous silicate of aluminium of volcanic origin and 1¥ lbs. of a solution of magnesium chloride, BaumÚ 14-19. A composition for a paint comprises 1¢ lbs. of magnesium oxide, 1¢ Ibs. of silica flour, 4 oz. of hydrous silicate of aluminium of volcanic origin, 4 oz. of colouring matter and 1 1b. magnesium chloride solution, 19-21 BaumÚ. The paint may be applied over creosote or creosote may be added to the composition, e.g., 4 to 6 oz. of creosote per gallon of paint.
