Abstract

523,349. Floors. GEWERKSCHAFT KERAMCHEMIE-BERGGARTEN. Dec. 31, 1938, No. 37989. Convention date, Jan. 26, Addition to 497,185. [Class 20 (iv)] [Also in Groups XXIX, III, IV, V and XXVIII] The stratiform structures, such as containers, pipes or floors, forming the subject of the parent Specification are modified in that part or whole of the rubber in the cement and rubber layer, or in the intermediate layer, or in both, is replaced by specified synthetic substances, (Group IV), or mixtures of them. The cement employed may be for example alumina or Portland cement, or burnt gypsum, and the cement containing layer may be obtained by mixing the cement with aqueous dispersions of the synthetic substances and, if desired, with dispersions of rubber, reclaimed rubber, or both, the proportions being such that the mixture solidifies to a gel without substantial evaporation of water, which can be subsequently dried. Additions such as quartz, ground shale or slate, and kaolin may also be made. The intermediate layer may be applied in the form of an aqueous dispersion or a solution by spraying, or it may be applied in the form of plates. The top layer may consist of ceramic plates cemented on. Both the cement containing and intermediate layers may consist of a number of strata of varying compositions. Thus, when the cement layer is applied to an iron surface it may consist of strata of decreasing cement content towards the intermediate layer. According to an example for protecting a concrete floor against acids, the first layer comprises a mixture of a dispersion of a condensate of dischlorodiethyl ether and sodium tetrasulphide, zinc oxide, ammoniacal casein solution, quartz powder, and Portland cement; the second layer consists of slabs formed from polymerized vinyl derivatives, and the third of slabs of ceramic material.
