Abstract

513,366. Preserving and colouring stone; cements; plastic compositions. KING, G., and WARNES, A. R. March 5,1938, No. 6992. [Classes 22 and 70] [Also in Groups VIII and III] Brick, stone, concrete, mortar, plaster &c. are preserved against discolouration by the application of siliceous alco-gel as described in Specification 290,717, [Class 1(i)], or a gel formed from a solution of silica in a non-aqueous solvent or solvents capable of forming a gel in the pores of the material, together with a preservative substance which may be applied simultaneously with or just prior to the application of the siliceous material. Mortars, plasters, or compositions for tiles &c., e.g. with silica powder or sillimanite, may be prepared by the use of the siliceous material and preservative and pigment may be added. In examples, a solution of silicic esters prepared as described in Specification 290,717 is (3) mixed with aluminium stearate and applied to brickwork, or (4) with boric acid to neutralize alkalinity in plasters or mortars : (5) applied to a plaster surface after treatment thereof with zinc chloride ; and (7) mixed with powdered stone and para-chlor-metacresol to form a mortar or plaster.
