Concrete mixes containing cement and a water-soluble aldehyde or ketone, preferably paraformaldehyde, have added thereto an inorganic salt to accelerate hardening. The salt, preferably a metal chloride such as calcium chloride, and the aldehyde may be added to the cement in powder form before gauging. To counteract the deliquescence of the calcium chloride, a dry carbonate, e.g. calcium carbonate, may also be added. Specification 14525/46 (as open to inspection under Sect. 91) is referred to.
