Abstract

512,161. Surgical trusses. SAVILE, A. R. April 1, 1938, No. 9994. [Class 81 (ii)] A surgical truss for rectal treatment comprises a truss pad 1 mounted on a, rigid backing member 20 tapering in width from front to back and provided with a protuberance 21 sliding on the upper surface of a carrier 3 supported by body harness. The protuberance 21 is formed with a pin 19 having an enlarged head 18 located in a slot 16 in the member 3 which has undercut sides or is of C-shape and is enlarged at one end for the insertion of the head of the pin 19. The pad 1 is mounted on a foundation member 2, which may be of india rubber with a canvas backing or insert, and is turned over the side of the carrier 3. In a modification. Figs. 10, 11, 12 (not shown), the backing member has lugs providing bearings for rollers or balls rolling on the upper surface of the carrier. The supporting harness comprises elastic braces 4 to which are attached elastic slings 8, 11 connected to hooks 9, 12 on the carrier. The slings 8, 11 are also engaged by an elastic belt 13 and the braces 4 may be replaced by a waist belt. The carrier and backing members are preferably made of metal coated with celluloid or a synthetic resin.
