Abstract
512,116. Boxes &c. for fragile articles. ASTLEY, A. Jan. 11, 1939, No. 873 [Class 18] Resilient devices for supporting and protecting fragile articles such as thermionic valves, in cartons &c. comprise tray-like members 5, 6 provided with tongues 13 held together at the points by an elastic cord 15. The trays are composed of fibre board with bent-up side portions 9 terminating in flaps 11, by which they may be lifted out of the carton &c. The tongues 13 are formed by V-shaped radial cuts 12 and scoring lines 16, 17. The cords 15 are threaded through apertures 14 in the tongues. A valve 4 having been placed on the lower tray 6, the upper tray 5 is inserted into 'the upper part of the carton so that the curved part is gripped by the resilient tongues. The tubular valve extensions are housed between flaps 18, which also may be resilient. A cathode ray tube may be housed in a tubular carton Fig. 2, between a tray 23 with flaps 24, 26 and a pair of crossed elastic cords 20. In this case, half the flaps are turned up and connected together by an elastic cord 25, while half are turned down and are comparatively rigid and support the valve laterally.
