Abstract
327,167. Robinson, F. G., and Robinson, Ltd., E. S. & A. Nov. 29, 1928. Fittings, internal.-A support for fragile articles such as electric light globes, thermionic valves, bottles or articles of a similar shape, is shaped towards one end to provide a seating for the article, and the walls at the other end are so scored that by gathering them together wings are formed which contact with the carton into which the support is inserted and maintain the walls of the support in gripping relation with the article. A single blank is folded into pyramidal shape Fig. 3, which, if a square cross-sectioned carton is to be employal has a cross-sectional area greater at one end than that of the carton. The walls of the blank are scored at 3 so that, when the walls 7 are bent inwards midway between the upper and lower edges of the support, adjacent the points 4, Fig. 6, the corner pieces 6 form fins. The lower part of the support forms a seating for the lamp which is spaced apart from both ends of the carton, and if the blank is cut away at 8, the terminals of the lamp, &c., will be exposed for testing. In modifications, the scorings 3 are curved, and the lines joining the points 4 are scored to facilitate the bending of the walls. The walls 7 may be scored to allow them to conform to the shape of the article contained, and the carton may be of any shape with non-parallel walls. The fins may be formed before the support is placed in the carton, or by the pressure of the walls of the carton while the support is being inserted.
