464,869. Cartons &c. BUTLER, W. J., and CAMPBELL CONVEYORS, Ltd. Nov. 1, 1935, No. 30214. [Classes 18 and 66] Containers &c. of paper (which may be waxed), wood-pulp, sheet metal, &c., of circular, oval, polygonal, or other shape in plan, of the kind adapted to be closed by bringing the edges of the mouth together and securing them, e.g. by a clip with or without the folding over of the edge of the mouth, are formed with the bottom initially of arched configuration in order that distortion brought about by closing shall bring the bottom into plane configuration. Fig. 5 shows a shaped blank suitable for the body, Fig. 9 a suitable bottom and Fig. 11 the assemblage. The bottom may also be arched by the action of suitable tools after assembly. The containers may be cylindrical or tapered in either direction. The body join may be formed by folding over the edges and interlacing suitable punched out portions. Two or more tubes may be arranged one within the other and two or more flanged disc base members may be used. The arched surface of the base may be cylindrical or angular, and, if the line of contact of the edge of the mouth is not diametral, more than one arched span for the base may be used. The tapered formation may be such as to facilitate nesting.
