[Class 99(ii)] [Also in Groups XVII and V] Containers and tubes have the side walls terminating at one or both ends with a beading of organic thermoplastic material, the side walls in some cases consisting wholly or partially of such material. In the form shown in Fig. 2 a container has its edge beaded by means of dies 8, 12 and a groove 11, the upper part being clamped by a ring 13. Heating fluid may be passed through pipes 7 in a table 6 to render the material plastic. This container is of organic transparent thermoplastic material and may have a lining of paper, fabric or metal foil. Alternatively, the ends only of the containers or tubes are of the material and the rest of paper, cardboard, wood, metal &c. In other forms laminations of paper, cloth, metal foil &c., printed, embossed or plain, may be combined with a sheet or sheets of the thermoplastic material and paper &c. labels, ribbons, metal foils &c. may be attached by the beading process. Fig. 5 shows a die which is waisted for convenience of insertion, a container end being secured by means of the bead. The container may be cylindrical or of square, hexagonal, polygonal or partly circular and partly angular cross-section. The bead may be turned outwardly or inwardly or partly outwardly and partly inwardly. The containers concerned are hat, shirt or collar boxes, hair pin containers, jewellery, cosmetic or store-anddisplay boxes for shops, or shoe boxes. The walls may be of mixtures of thermoplastics or of paper or textile fabric impregnated with thermoplastic material. Thermoplastic substances mentioned include cellulose derivatives such as nitrocellulose and organic derivatives of cellulose such as esters, e.g., acetate, butyrate, formate, or propionate, or ethers such as ethyl, methyl and benzyl cellulose, mixed esters such as stearate-acetate and nitroacetate and mixed ether esters such as ethyl cellulose acetate. Other substances mentioned are synthetic resins such as urea-formaldehyde resins, polyhydric alcohol - polybasic acid resins, e.g., glycerol phthalic anhydride resins, polymerized vinyl compounds, e.g., polymerized vinyl chloride or acetate, and polymerized acrylic acid esters such as polymerized methyl methacrylate and derivatives of such vinyl compounds. Synthetic rubbers may also be employed.
