Abstract

Articles comprising polyvinyl chloride or polymers of acrylic esters or alpha-substituted acrylic esters of saturated alcohols are dyed in the presence of benzyl alcohol. Suitable dyes or pigments which may be used are those sold under the Registered Trade Marks "Dispersol," "Duranol," "Solacet," "Waxoline," "Monolite" and "Monastral." Between 0.1 and 10 per cent of benzyl alcohol may be used and a wetting agent also may be present. Examples are given of the use of benzyl alcohol in the dyeing of cast sheets of plasticized polymethyl methacrylate, cast sheets of polystyrene and materials of polyethylene. Specifications 483,242 and 576,793 are referred to.ALSO:Articles comprising polyvinyl chloride or polymers of acrylic esters or alpha-substituted acrylic esters of saturated alcohols are dyed or printed in the presence of benzyl alcohol. In the latter example, the printing paste contains also cellulose acetate or polymethyl methacrylate plasticized with dibutyl phthalate. Specifications 483,242 and 576,793 are referred to.
