[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XI] Substituting sources in service.-An emergency lighting installation adapted for use in hospitals comprises a series of relatively low voltage lamps which are normally supplied from the mains through a step-down transformer or alternatively, in the event of the mains supply failing, are connected automatically to a battery having a voltage substantially equal to that of the transformer secondary. A relay is connected in parallel with the primary winding of the transformer and normally operates to close the circuit between primary and load and open the connection to the battery. If the mains supply fails the relay is de-energised and closes the circuit between battery and load.
