510,630. Coil-winding apparatus. TRIGGS, W. W. (Micafil Akt.-Ges.). April 28, 1938, No. 12687. [Class 35] A machine for winding slotted armatures has the mechanism controlled by a counter, the tripping action of which effects the stopping of the rotary face plate carrying the armature the carrier being disconnected from its drive and braked after which the brake is removed, the carrier is rotated by an auxiliary drive and a slot advancing movement is performed. In the form shown, the armature 1 is carried by a faceplate 10 driven by a pulley 17 from a winding motor (not shown) the counter 24 indicating the revolutions of the faceplate. Just before the required number of turns has been wound, the counter causes the winding motor to be switched off by a mechanism including link 39, lever 42 and cam 22 and simultaneously causes the application of a brake to the faceplate, followed by the removal of the brake. When the brake is released, a friction wheel driven by a second motor is brought into engagement with a groove in the periphery of the faceplate and rotates it until the slot 12 therein containing the slide 13 for producing angular movement of the armature is vertical. The lever 42 then permits the clutch 27 to drive a shaft 28 from the second motor (not shown) through gearing 26 and a cam 64 on shaft 28 actuates the slide 13 through link 65 and enables the armature to be moved one slot pitch about its axis by pawl 14. A predetermined movement of the clutch 27 resets the counter and lever 42 is enabled to cause the closing of the winding motor switch. The shaft 28 drives a gear 31 arranged to disconnect the motor driving this shaft after one revolution of the gear 31 which corresponds to one revolution of the armature about its axis, the gear 31 being readily interchangeable and having a number of teeth proportional to the number of slots in the armature.
