Abstract

915,272. Winding armatures for dynamoelectric machines. MICAFIL A.G. Jan. 26, 1959 [Jan. 25, 1958], No. 2748/59. Class 35. [Also in Group XIX] Small motor armatures are wound without stopping the machine for the purpose of drawing out the commutator connection taps and indexing the armature in successive slot positions, these processes being carried out at a speed lower than the winding speed but without stopping. The armature 7 is mounted by shaft supports 8, 9 in a rotating armature-carrier 1, and is retained in position by a spring-loaded tailstock 10 which is releasable by pedal 14. The armature indexing and loop-formation is performed by mechanism in the armaturecarrier which is operated (at the lower speed) when lever 18 is moved in a clock-wise direction by the anti-clockwise rotation of the carrier bringing it against a stop-lever 100. This movement of the lever 18 raises slide 20 against spring 24, so that a loop-hook 26 on this slide pulls out a commutator connection tapping and simultaneously an indexing hook 21 engaging an armature slot moves the armature round by one slot-pitch in readiness for the next coil. The armature is indexed during winding by a catch 25. The reduced speed necessary for these operations is obtained by switching off the main driving motor 2, braking the armature-carrier by means of a band 39 and driving it at a reduced speed from a motor 44 through reducing gearing and a rubber drive roller 43. The brake and the driving roller (which is constantly rotating) are applied simultaneously by linkage, not shown. The change in rotational speed and the operation of lever 100 to draw out the wire loop and re-index the armature, are initiated by a counter 62 (see Group XIX). This counter is driven from the armature-carrier shaft 6 through reversible gearing 103, 104 so employed that the counter first records the carrier rotations additively up to a preset number of turns whereupon a link 70 initiates the slot-change operations, and then records subtractively while winding the next successive slot whereupon the slot-change operation is again performed, and so on. Movement of the link 70 acts (by mechanism shown in Fig. 6 (not shown)) to rock lever 90 which in turn operates a draw hook 102 which engages pins 106 on a reversing wheel 107 to reverse the drive through the gearing, and simultaneously displaces lever 100 into the path of lever 18. At the same time it rocks a control lever 54 about its pivot 55 to notch round a ratchet wheel 57 by one tooth division. This wheel has a number of teeth equivalent to the number of slots to be wound, and operates a limit switch to stop the machine when the winding is complete. The wire may be distributed in the slots by a reciprocating guiding fork (Fig. 8, not shown).
