510,109. Acoustic treatment of rooms. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. June 28, 1938, No. 19145. Convention date, Aug. 19, 1937. [Class 13] A thin flat sound-absorbing unit containing rock wool, spun glass, or gypsum 19 between perforated metal sheets 11, is slung on edge from a ceiling. The mass of the casing is sufficient to make the unit substantially inert under the pressure of the sound waves. Wooden spacers 13 may be used to keep the material 19 out of contact with the perforated sides. Sifting-out of the absorbing material under vibration may be prevented by employing a spring suspension 18, of such nature that the resonant frequency of the unit is below that of the more important disturbing vibrations, e.g. when mounted over machines.
