509,177. Resilient mountings ; spring forks. GETEFO GES. FUR TECHNISCHEN FORTSCHRITT. April 28, 1938, No. 12658. Convention date, April 29, 1937. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXI] A rubber spring 1 bonded to metal plates 2, 3 is arranged to absorb both shear and tension stresses by relative movement of the plates parallel to and away from one another. The rubber block 1 is recessed at the sides to produce a reduced cross-section at the centre as disclosed in Specification 464,621 and the plate 3 is bolted at 20, 21 to a sprung part 19 of the chassis frame. The plate 2 is secured at 6, 7 to a wheel fork 10 pivoted to the part 19 by links 11, 12. As shown, the proportions of the shear and tension stresses of the rubber of the total force absorbed is about equal and as the load increases the tensile portion becomes smaller and the shear portion greater. The springing thus has a linear characteristic in the high load ranges, the characteristic may be arranged to fall at the high load ranges if desired. By the use of guides &c., the proportions of the shear and tension stresses absorbed may be varied.
