Abstract

[Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXI] A vehicle spring device comprises a metal casing, a metal member arranged in and movable parallel relatively to the casing, and prismatic rubber blocks arranged in and bonded to the casing and to the movable member so that they are stressed in shear when relative movement occurs between the member and the casing, the blocks being protected by the casing and by additional cover-plates against external influences. The invention is shown applied to the front fork of a motor cycle, the wheel 1 being fixed in legs 3 secured to metal plates 4, rubber blocks 5 being bonded to the plates 4 and to metal plates 6 secured to two channel-shaped protecting members 7 forming the casing, which are connected at their upper ends to the handle-bars and rotatably mounted in a bearing 8 in the cycle frame. The upper and lower ends of the legs 3 are slidable but non-rotatable in bearings 13, 12 in the ends of the members 7 so that the rubber blocks are stressed in shear when the wheel moves upwardly. In order to protect the inner faces of the blocks, the members 7 are connected by a bridge-piece 10 having extended upturned flanges on its sides 11.
