[Class 87 (ii)] Sheets of dough on a conveyer 2 are coiled by two driven rollers 20, 3, one of which is movable under the influence of the growing coil 1, and a separating plate 16 is provided which is movable under the influence of the coil to shield one roller from contact with the dough to permit discharge of the coil. In Fig. 2, the dough sheet passes under a flattening roller 24 and contacts with the roller 3 which is carried on an arm 8, pivoted on a shaft 5 and carrying a counterweight 9. The dough sheet is coiled between the roller 3 and a polygonal roller 20 mounted in fixed bearings and the coil causes the roller 3 to lift about the pivot 5. Both rollers are driven by chain gearing 6, 22 from the shaft 5. The separator plate 16 is pivoted in a slot 14 in a lever 13, the other end of which has a pin-and-slot connection 11 with a projection 10 on the arm 8. As the roller 3 rises, the plate 16 is moved between the roller 3 and the coil, finally allowing the finished coil to pass out beneath the plate when it strikes a projection 16b and returns the plate to its initial position. In a modification, Fig. 6, the roller 3 is mounted in fixed bearings and the roller 20 is carried by an arm 37 pivoted about a shaft 35 from which the rollers are driven. The separator plate 48 is pivoted on an arm 45 which is fixed to a shaft 44 driven by a chain-wheel 41 fixed to the arm 37. The plate 48 shields the roller 20 and allows the dough coil to pass over the roller 3 while a projection 49 bears on the shaft 35 and causes the plate 48 to compress the coil.
