Abstract
783,894. Straightening; shearing. VIALETTE, J. Nov. 10, 1954 [Nov. 19, 1953], No. 32607/54. Class 83 (4). A machine for straightening and cutting off a desired length of iron reinforcement for structural concrete comprises a frame 1 having on its upper surface two longitudinal parallel flanges 2, 3 between which are secured straightening rollers. Grooved rollers 14, 15 co-operate with vertically adjustable rollers 16, 17; these are followed by grooved rollers 20, 21. Rollers 22, 23, 24 are carried by a vertically adjustable plate, the roller 23 being horizontally adjustable towards and away from the rollers 22, 24. A roller 30 co-operates with a vertically adjustable roller 31. The shears include a stationary section 56 rigid with the frame and a movable section 57 rotatably carried by a spindle; the sections 56, 57 have openings therethrough for the workpiece. The rollers 14, 15 are driven, so as to feel the workpiece; a shaft 4 driven by a pulley 5 drives through gears 6, 7, clutch 7, 72 and shaft 8, a gear 9 meshing with gears 10, 11 on the spindles of the rollers 14, 15. The gear 7 is integral with a sprocket 49 which drives through chain 48, sprocket 47, clutch 46, 44, shaft 45 and bevel gears 50, 51 a camshaft 52; the camshaft carries a plate 53 with an eccentric pin connected by a link 54 to an arm rigid with the movable part 57 of the shears. The spindle 13 of the roller 15 drives through sprocket 26, chain 27 and sprocket 28 the shaft of the roller 30; this shaft drives through bevel gears 32, 33, shaft 34, worm 35, worm wheel 36, shaft 37 and clutch 62, 38 a drum 38. The drum has a peripheral groove in which are adjustably secured a plate 75 and a plate 39 having an oblique edge 39<SP>1</SP> co-operating with a lever 40 pivoted at 41 to the machine frame. The lower end of the lever 40 is connected to a transverse rod 42 connected with a lever 43 pivoted at 43<SP>1</SP> and carrying the clutch part 44 through which the cam shaft 52 is driven. The cam shaft 52 carries a cam 59 co-operating with a roller 60 on the end of the transverse rod 42; the cam shaft 52 also carries a cam 61 co-operating with a roller 63<SP>1</SP> on a lever 63 pivoted at 64 which disengages the clutch 38, 62 through which the drum 38 is driven, the clutch being normally engaged by a coil spring 65. A third cam 67 on the cam shaft 52 co-operates with a roller on a transverse rod 69 coupled with a rocking arm 70 which disengages the clutch 7, 72 which is normally engaged by a coil spring 73. Operating cycle.-(1) The clutch 7, 72 being engaged, the rollers 14, 15 are driven so as to feed the workpiece. The clutch part 46 is driven but is disengaged from clutch part 44. The clutch 62, 38 being engaged the drum 38 is driven. (2) The oblique edge 39<SP>1</SP> of the plate 39 on the drum 38 rocks the lever 40 to operate the transverse rod 42 which unlatches the lever 43 which is then moved by a spring to engage the clutch 44, 46 so that the cam shaft 52 is driven. The cam 67 then disengages the clutch 7, 72 so that the rollers 14, 15 are not driven and the travel of the workpiece stops. (3) The plate 53 on the cam shaft 52 actuates the shears 56, 57. (4) The cam 61 disengages the clutch 38, 62 and the drum 38 is returned to its initial position determined by the plate 75 by a weight 78 on a cable 77 wound round the drum 38. (5) After one complete revolution of the cam shaft 52 the cam 59 moves the transverse rod 42 back to its original position, so moving the lever 43 to disengage the clutch 44, 46 so that the drive to the cam shaft 52 stops. The cam 67 causes re-engagement of the clutch 7, 72 and the cycle is repeated.
