Abstract
508,884. Seats. VAUGHAN, E. Feb. 25, 1938, No. 5938. [Class 52 (ii)] In a chair in which the back and arms 4 are pivoted to the seat or base section 5 so as to fold down thereon, a metal rod or tube 6, Fig. 2, extends across the side frames 3 of the base and protrudes at each side to form a spindle for the back section. The tube 6 is fixed relatively to the base section by means of collars 8, distance pieces or washers 9 are provided between the frames 3 and the side frames of the back section 4, and the latter are mounted on the tube by means of bushes 10 which project slightly beyond the tube and are held in position by bolts 7 screwed into the tube. Washers 11 may be provided under the bolt heads. The side frames of the base and of the arm and back sections are preferably of plywood. Means for locking the back and arms in normal position may be provided.
