Abstract
508,752. Solidifying liquids by cooling. DOWNEY, T. B. Sept. 16,1938, No. 27047. [Class 29] In the solidification of liquid gelatine, glue, &c. in films or sheets by spreading the liquid on a conveyer belt passing through a refrigerating chamber, the material is transferred from an upper belt to a lower belt with the surface of the film reversed so as to obtain a tough skin on both surfaces, and the film is then removed at the feeding end of the chamber on to a transfer belt and delivered to drying racks. The liquid is fed through a spray pipe 17, Fig. 5, on to the upper belt 18, which is flanged at its edges 19, and the partly solidified sheet is removed at the other end of the belt by a stripper 42, Fig. 4, and roller 43 on to the lower belt 39. It is separated from the outer end of this belt by a stripper 45, Fig. 5, and conveyed by a transfer belt 33 to the drying racks 36. The stripper 42 and roller 43 are carried on brackets 46 depending from the support for the inner roller 25 of the upper belt. The refrigerating chamber is provided with cooling coils 29, Fig. 6, and fan 31 for directing chilling air over the conveyers and around a baffle 28.
