Abstract

<PICT:1066916/C6-C7/1> <PICT:1066916/C6-C7/2> Apparatus for supplying water to cool hot metal strip 1, e.g. passing over an assembly of parallel rolls 3 each driven by a motor 7, comprises a cylindrical plenum chamber 8 having two inlet pipes 26, two discharge pipes, e.g. in form of spaced elbows 9 projecting horizontally towards the rolls with outer ends turned facing each other, and two overflow pipes 27 each provided with adjustable weir means 30, Figs. 5, 8 (not shown) to vary the head of water above the discharge pipes, a header chamber 11 connected to the discharge pipes e.g. by a pair of rotary unions 10 so that chamber 11 may be rotated by a chain 18 driven by a motor 16, and positioned to be maintained full of water by gravity flow from chamber 8, and a plurality of feeder pipes 20 each provided from its uppermost wall with a plurality of U-shaped delivery pipes 22 connected to the common header chamber 11.
