508,500. Cooling furnace charges. FASTING, J. S. Dec. 31, 1937, No. 36257. [Class 51 (ii)] Apparatus for cooling cement clinker or similar material comprises a shaft or shafts 6 each having an air-permeable wall 5 through which cooling air is forced into the material passing down the shaft. In the rotary kiln plant shown conveying elements 13 on the kiln distribute the material over grates 8 at the top of the shafts, the material flowing down on to a table 15 from which it is swept off by reciprocating scrapers 16 on to a disc 18 rotated through a bevel gear 20, from which, by another scraper, it is pushed off down the shoot 19,
