508,334. Hand - propelled lifeboats. BUTI, H. April 29, 1938, No. 12875: [Classes 113 (ii) and 114] A lifeboat propelled by mechanical gear actuated by the passengers has an inner frames work comprising longitudinal sills 2 extending throughout the length of the boat. These carry the bearings. 9 of the transverse shafts 10 of the propelling gear, uprights 5 which support the transverse seats 7, and footboards 14. The seats are wide enough to seat two rows of passengers back to back. The port and starboard actuating handles 13 drive a common propeller but each set may be disconnected from the driving gear if desired.
