Abstract
508,061. Rotary furnaces. DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN AKT.-GES. Dec. 18, 1937, Nos. 35139 and 35140. Convention dates, Dec. 19, 1936, and July 16, 1937. [Class 51 (ii)] A rotary furnace for the bright annealing of metals in a protective atmosphere comprises concentric drums through which the goods pass successively, the heating-zone being at that end of the furnace at which the direction of travel of the goods is reversed, while the remainder of the length of the drums constitutes a zone 4 for the interchange of heat between the incoming and outgoing goods and a cooling- zone 12. As shown, the furnace is inclined and the goods from the supply 2 are raised through the inner drum by a screw 3. The inner drum may be perforated, and the annular space between the drums is divided by partitions 6 having offset openings or formed with passages leading from one space to the next. The lower end of the furnace has a cooling- jacket 21 and final cooling of the goods may be effected outside. Protective gas is supplied at the upper end of the furnace, e.g. through the hollow shaft, and escapes at the charging and discharging openings. Heating is effected by exchangeable electric elements 8.
