Abstract
507,398. Insoles for boots and shoes; compound sheet materials. LUMBARD, H. G. Oct. 28, 1938, No. 31227. Convention date, Nov. 6, 1937. [Class 17 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] An insole comprises an upper cushion layer of uniform thickness and an underlying ply of tough fibrous material flexible in the forepart and shank and stiff at the heel seat. A thin flexible layer may be bonded to the exposed surface of the cushion layer to serve as a sock lining. The cushion layer may comprise a composition consisting of 70 per cent cork and 30 per cent rubber and may be cemented under pressure to a composite layer having a central section 10 of a tough flexible pulp product with transverse corrugations rolled into its lower face, and edge sections 11, 12 of stiffer fibreboard. Insoles may be formed by cementing two shaped pieces together, or they may be died out from a composite sheet, with heels and toes alternating at each end. Soleattaching stitches may be embedded in the cushion layer out of contact with the foot.
