Abstract

431,023. Boots &c. BARKER & SONS, Ltd., A., and BARKER, E., Earl's Barton, Northampton. Nov. 28, 1934, No. 34201. [Class 17 (ii)] A plurality of meta springs 8 is positioned out of contact with each other in a filler of resilient material 5 between the inner and outer soles 1, 4, of a boot or shoe to provide flexibility and resiliency to the tread. The springs may be of coiled formation, as shown, or, in the form of plates supported at their ends between the insole 1 and filler 5 and bearing at the midportions against the outer sole. If desired, however, this arrangement may be reversed. The resilient filler 5, which may be of sponge rubber, may extend from toe to heel, and the springs 8 may be provided at the waist as well as at the toe and heel, if desired. The springs may be of different strengths so as to vary the resiliency of the sole at different parts of the surface. In a modification, the springs may be maintained in position between upper and lower sheets of heavily rubberized fabric in which the springs become slightly embedded and to which they adhere under pressure.
