Abstract

506,712. Stapling continuous filaments. VEREINIGTE GLANZSTOFF - FABRIKEN AKT.-GES. Nov. 22, 1938, No. 33909. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1937. [Class 120 (iii)] In cutting bundles of artificial filaments into staple lengths by feeding them into a radial channel 3 in a rotating wheel 1 from the periphery of which they emerge by centrifugal force and are there cut by a knife bearing against the periphery of the wheel; the knife is pressed against the edge of the wheel by a spring or like resilient means and is mounted on a pivot. which is slidably arranged in a stationary part of the frame carrying the shaft of the rotating wheel and is moved up and down so that the knife comes in front of the exit of the channel only at every two or three revolutions of the wheel, so that staples of varying length may be obtained. As shown, the knife 5 is carried by a pivot 6 journalled in a fixed part 13 of the machine frame and carried in an arm 7 having a hub 11 in which is mounted a block 12 revoluble in an endless spiral groove 10 in a bush 9 fixed to the shaft 8 of the centrifugal wheel I ; the periphery of the wheel is widened for engagement by the knife when it is lowered from the exit of the channel 3 and an arm 14, keyed to the pivot 6 and connected by a rubber, band or a spring with the part 13, holds the knife resiliently against the periphery of the wheel. Specification 289.02S, [Class 120 (iii)], is referred to.
