Abstract

277,887. Brown, G. A. April 13, 1927. Ice-breaking tools.- In an ice-shaving machine of the type comprising a rotary cutter disc 6 at the base of a curved hopper 16 through which a block of ice is forced by a presser head 20 on a lever 21. the lever carries an adjustable weight 23, so that the operator need not apply the pressure, and the cutter disc, comprising knife sections 14 on the bevelled edges of slots 10, is fitted with radial blades 25 serving to force the shavings down a discharge passage 3 into a receptacle below. The inner ends of the slots 10 are formed with a spiral bevel cut into the hub of the cutter disc. A removable sheet-metal guard 24 may be fitted in the front of the hopper and a guard 26 may be placed over the rim of the cutter. The base of the machine is preferably of part circular form and the part 2 arches over the discharge opening 3. A guard 27 may be placed in front of the space for the receptacle for the shavings. The cutter shaft 5 is driven by a' belt pulley 15.
