Abstract

1,240,277. Grass cutting machine. QUALCAST Ltd. 8 Jan., 1970 [16 Oct., 1968], No. 48993/68. Heading A1F. A vertical axis rotating cutter grass cutting machine with stationary multidigital co-operating shear blade and grass collector with delivery shoot comprises a trochoidally shaped (in plan view) main frame 1 supported on wheels or rollers (2), an electric motor 4 having a drive shaft 5 extending vertically upwards and carrying a rotating cutter 7, which extends downwards over the motor and has six equally spaced blades 8 which have a leading cutting edge 10 and an angled trailing edge 11. The latter scoop and fan, in an air drought, the cut grass up a shoot 20 into a removable grass container 23. The adjustable height fixed blade 6 is mounted on the base of motor 4 and extends forward to form a plurality of radial fingers extending over an arc of not greater than 180 degrees, and in the preferred embodiment 120 degrees, which co-operate with leading edges 10 of blades 8 to give shear action when cutting grass. Frame 1 encloses cutter 7 over the non cutting part of the circle of rotation. The frame 1 and container 23 may be synthetic plastics material mouldings, light allow castings or pressings, and the whole machine is moved manually via handle 3; however the drive means from motor 4 could be used to drive one or more wheels 2 via a clutch.
