Abstract
506,471. Compound refrigerant compressors. SHUHOLM, L. C..July 23. 1938, No. 21955. Convention date, July 23, 1937. [Class 8 (i)] The cylinders of a compound refrigerating &c. compressor are arranged on opposite sides of the drive shaft, and one of the pistons 20, co-operates with ports 45, 42 to control the inlet of fluid to the cylinder 9 and its transfor to the cylinder 10 for further compression, the fluid being finally discharged through a port 44 controlled by a piston valve 21. Fluid is supplied to the interior of piston 20 through ports 45, 46 from chamber 39, and is transferred through ports 47, 42 on the upward stroke of piston 20, during the early part of the downstroke of piston 19 ; at the end of this downstroke the cylinder 9 receives fluid direct from this chamber. Cooling ribs 13, 14 are provided on the cylinders, which also have yielding heads 15, 16.
