506,169. Vacuum cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. Nov. 23, 1937, No. 32226. Convention date, Dec. 11, 1936. [Class 8 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] The cleaner may be used for off-the-floor cleaning by rotating the handle 3, and with it the casing 2 containing the fan and motor, into a certain position, removing an end plate, and inserting the converter 33.. In this position of the casing, a projection 27 on the nozzle opens the normal low and high speed circuits of the motor and the circuit of a lamp 19, and at the same time a wedge 51 releases a clutch 44a by which the agitator is driven. The insertion of the converter locks the handle in position and by a projection 37 closes the switch 39 of a third-speed circuit. A switch A controlling the circuits is provided in the handle.
