506,155. Fused electrolyte cells. ALUMINIUM-INDUSTRIE-AKT.-GES. Dec. 15, 1938, No. 36608. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1937. [Class 41] In aluminium refining cells of the threelayer type, electrolyte 2 may be added or removed by means of a shaft 10 in the wall of the cell opening into the interior of the cell at the level of the electrolyte. In a cell working at 740‹ C., the shaft is maintained at 720-730‹ C., thus preventing the solidification of the electrolyte in the shaft during addition or removal. The lower end of the shaft 12 is inclined to prevent the ladle from being dipped into the anode metal. The shaft may be lined with an insulating material.
