Abstract

506,035. Projector, lamps. HARLEY, M. C. Nov. 17, 1937, No. 31672. [Classes 75 (ii); 75 (iii), and 75 (iv)] A projector lamp, suitable for use as a landing or take-off lamp for aircraft, vehicle headlamp, searchlight, &c., comprises a doubleended lamp e, e.g. a high-pressure mercury vapour lamp providing a substantially pointsource of light, so arranged that the source is at the focus f of a parabolic reflector a, the latter being mounted to pivot about a diametral axis passing through the focus f. The reflector is formed with bushes p<1>, p<2> which embrace tubular elements (d<1>, d<2> clamped in bearings c<1>, c<2> on the ends of the arms of a fork b, a remote control, such as a Bowden cable, being provided for tilting the reflector. The complete lamp is mounted so that it may be swivelled about a vertical axis n. The lamp e is carried by brackets h attached, so as to provide for initial adjustment of the lamp, by slotted connections to a bridge-piece which unites the tubular members d<1>, d<2>, the latter serving to accommodate the current leads m<1>, m<2>. When the lamp is fitted to aircraft, the members d<1>, d<2> may be rotatable in the bearings c<1>, c<2> and crank means provided to enable the lamp to be " trimmed " when the aircraft is diving or climbing at a steep angle.
