Abstract

506,005. Centrifugal dust separators. GRAF, F., and ZERKOWITZ, G. Nov. 19, 1937, No. 31958. Convention date, Doc. 15, 1936. [Class 23] Dust laden gas flows through a helical passage 1 provided with lattices or gratings 3 through which the dust passes into a number of closed independent chambers 4. The chambers may be formed in a single casing by means of partitions 5 which are arranged at every turn or every two turns, and gas is unable to pass from one chamber to another. The dust is discharged from the chambers 4 by means of rotary bucket valves 7 on a common shaft, and a helical conveyer 8 arranged beneath the valves. In a modification the bucket valves 6 are not used, and the dust is discharged through a water seal. The gratings 3 do not occupy more than a quarter of the separator circumference, and the dust chambers may be angularly off-set in relation to each other. For fluctuating quantities of gas two separators are used arranged as shown in Fig. 6. The gas stream enters the larger separator 9 by its inlet 11 and part of the stream passes to the outlet 14 while the remainder passes to the smaller separator 10 for further treatment. The outlet 14 is throttled by a weight-or spring-controlled flap 16 which remains completely closed when the gas stream is small, so that all the gas passes through the second separator. As the quantity increases, the pressure increases until the flap 16 is lifted to permit part of the stream to pass.
