Abstract

505,882. Vacuum cleaners ; cooling electric motors. HOOVER, Ltd. Sept. 10, 1938, No. 26440. Convention date, Sept. 24, 1937. [Claas 8 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] The motor of a vacuum cleaner is enclosed in an inner casing 5 scaled against communication with the main suction fan chamber, and has a separate ventilating fan 23 which draws clean air through inlets 6a, 5a in the outer hood 6 and the motor casing and discharges the air through openings 8a, 6b, The casing may be recessed to hold a lamp 20 which is closed in by 'lateral ribs on the casing cooperating with ribs on the hood and upper ribs 24a on the hood. The motor brushes 13 are maintained in contact with the commutator 14 by coiled springs 15 held by pivoted conducting latches 16. The rear end of the hood is slotted to receive a spring catch 26 mounted on the cleaner, and the front is normally screwed to a bracket on the casing, so that the hood is removable.
