Abstract

490,495. Vacuum cleaners. AIR-WAY ELECTRIC APPLIANCE CORPORATION. Dec. 21, 1937, No. 35348. Convention date, Jan. 11. [Class 8 (i)] The handle 43 of a vacuum cleaner is rigidly attached to the fan case 29<1>, and the fan case is telescopically connected with the outlet or outlets 14<1> of the suction chamber and mounted rotatably by arms pivoting about the horizontal axis of the motor 15. The motor is supported by projections 28 on the suction chamber and resilient mountings 29, and drives the fan and the agitator 16 through belts. A cover 21 is pivoted about the motor axis and releasably attached by buttons 41 to the necks of the fan casing. A visor 23 is provided having a reflecting hood for a lamp 26. A rubber packing is provided between the fan case and the outlet 14<1> and a spring- pressed lever 48 tends to lift the fan case. When the handle is raised vertically, the fan case is detached from the suction chamber allowing tools to be connected to the fan case. In a modification, the visor and motor cover are combined to form a cover pivoted on the suction casing and resting on a buffer on the fan case, the cover and fan case being connected by a spring.
