Abstract
505,699. Injection moulding. LAWYER, I. B. Feb. 14, 1938, No. 4603. Convention date, April 26, 1937. [Class 87 (ii)] An injection moulding machine for plastic material has a feeding device for supplying material to the injector mechanism and a motor, controlled by time-responsive means, for operating the feeding device. The material in a hopper 38 is fed by a screw 39 down a vertical shoot 31 into the injection chamber 11 whence it is forced by the hydraulic plunger 18 through the nozzle 17 into the mould. The screw 39 is driven by an electric motor 47 which is started by a switch 29 and is automatically stopped after a predetermined time by a timing switch. The switch 29 is actuated by a cam 25 on the plunger 18 and the timing switch is set so that a slight excess of material is supplied to the injection chamber at each stroke of the plunger so that the chamber gradually fills with material. When this occurs the cam 25 fails to reach the switch 29 on a forward stroke and a feeding movement of the screw 39 is accordingly omitted. The chamber 11 may be heated by electricity or hot oil.
